Elena retires from
tennis
28th October 2010
After playing her final match at the WTA Championships in Doha, Elena
announced her retirement from tennis.
At her retirement ceremony, she said: "This year in Doha was very
special for me because it was my last tournament. I'd first like to
thank Stacey Allaster. We're very lucky to have you as the leader of
the tour. You do so much to make our tour better, trying to take
women's tennis to a different level. It has been a big honor to be a
part of the tour for such a long time. I'd like to thank all the
people from the WTA - it was so nice to get to know all of you and
work with you for so many years. I'm going to miss you so much.
Thanks to all the players for the amazing experiences, all the years
I spent on the court with you. And thanks to all the people around
the world for supporting me, and my fan club, I could feel your
support no matter where I was in the world. Thank you for your
devotion. Most importantly, thanks to my family, especially my mom.
You've been very supportive, encouraging, inspiring... you were
always there for me. It was a long way and we did it together. I
love you mom. It's so emotional. It's hard to say goodbye. I'm going
to miss you so much."
Thank Elena for the memories and good luck in whatever is next! |

Round Robin 1st match interview
26th October 2010
Q.
How is your ankle? Having problems?
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: No, my ankle is much better. I think the fact that
I was not able to practice for a couple of days because I really
needed to rest it, you know, really affected the way I was moving
today.
I feel I was really affected by the weather conditions. I was going
for the wrong shots all the time. Usually it's not happening to me
very often.
But, yeah, I'm sure I will play better next match. It was, you know,
quite tough experience today. Caroline played very solid, as usually
she does this season.
For me, it was not a good match.

WTA Championships
Pre-Tournament Interview
25th October 2010
Q.
How do you rate your year so far?
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: I think it's been a good year so far. I had some
good moments, especially in the beginning of the season. I think
coming to this championship I was playing some good tennis in Tokyo
and Beijing, so it feels good so far.
Q. I think you've been here ten times. What's the secret to this
fantastic record?
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: I guess I was pretty consistent during all these
years. I feel like I played the Championships in so many different
places. Well, it's been great to be able to participate in every
Championship.
Every time it's a different challenge, but I just feel as exciting
as it was ten years ago when I reached my first Championships in New
York, Madison Square Garden. It feels great.
